Hon. Kwame Owusu Bampoe, popularly known as KOB and Assemblyman for the Aprade Mesewamu Electoral Area, has sharply criticised comments attributed to Hon. Stephen Amoah at Nhyiayeso, describing them as careless, divisive, and fundamentally at odds with the core values of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Hon. Bampoe, any attempt to frame leadership, appointments, or political succession within the NPP along tribal lines is dangerous and unacceptable.

He stressed that Ghana “deserves better than rhetoric that seeks to divide citizens on the basis of ethnicity.”

Challenging the logic behind the remarks, Hon. Bampoe pointed out that Hon. Stephen Amoah himself benefited from merit-based appointments under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He recalled that Amoah was appointed Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC at a time when Dr. Bawumia was Vice President, and later served as Deputy Minister for Trade and Deputy Minister for Finance.
“If appointments were truly based on tribe, would Hon. Stephen Amoah have risen that far?” Hon. Bampoe questioned, adding that qualified northerners existed at the time, yet competence and loyalty prevailed over ethnic considerations.
He also defended the appointment of Hon. Amin Adam as Finance Minister following the departure of Ken Ofori-Atta, describing him as a seasoned economist, a committed NPP member, and fully qualified for the position.
Hon. Bampoe rejected claims that the appointment was imposed, saying such assertions insult both Dr. Bawumia and the intelligence of Ghanaians.
Reaffirming the ideological foundations of the NPP, Hon. Bampoe emphasized that the party is neither tribal nor religious, but a truly national political movement founded on the principles of inclusiveness and competence by leaders such as J.B. Danquah, K.A. Busia, and S.D. Dombo.
He praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his consistent stance on unity and fairness, noting that his record reflects inclusion and nation-building rather than ethnic politics.
Hon. Bampoe concluded with a call to NPP delegates and party faithful to reject what he described as “emotional, divisive, and childish narratives” that weaken the party and hand advantage to political opponents.
He urged them to focus on leadership that can unite the nation, stabilise the economy, and move Ghana forward.
“This election is about Ghana, not tribe,” he stressed, endorsing Dr. Bawumia as a symbol of hope, competence, and national cohesion.
