Former NDC parliamentary aspirant for Atwima Mponua, Mrs. Sakina Oforiwaa has commended President John Dramani Mahama for the “Tree for Life” Reforestation initiative.

She has asserted that, launching of the program showcases President’s readiness to sustain Ghana’s forest and ensure food security.

Madam Sakina Oforiwaa, the choicest candidate and the  top notch character for the Atwima Mponua District Chief Executive position said she is more than set to support the President’s fight against devastation of lands, water bodies and forests in Ghana.

She underlined protection and sustainace of forests within the Atwima Mponua District as her topmost priority and for that reason vowed to roll out measures needed to encourage tree planting, restore lands and rivers degraded by mining activities and instill in residents a spirit and desire to protect the environment through public education when she is appointed as DCE for the area.

Workaholic Sakina also pledged to collaborate with officials of the District Forestry Commission to clamp down all forms of activities that pose threat to the life of trees.

Speaking to Leaky Ghana Online exclusively shortly after the launch of ‘Tree for Life’ Reforestation initiative at Nkawie of Ashanti region, she lamented over the high level of devastation caused to forests reserves and water bodies in the name of mining.

“Even our ancestors were privy the mineral deposits in our lands yet they ensured the protection of same because they know the importance of trees or forest.”

In the interview, she commended the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene over his decision to restore the lost “garden city” image of the region.
