The Municipal Chief Executive for Old Tafo, Abubakar Sadiq, has praised MTN Ghana for rolling out its Self-Service SIM Swap platform, describing it as a major milestone in Ghana’s digital and telecommunications development.

Speaking on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, at the launch held on Wednesday at Kejetia Market, Mr. Sadiq lauded MTN Ghana for its consistent role in expanding connectivity, fostering digital innovation, and supporting financial inclusion across the country.

He noted that the platform, which allows customers to replace lost or damaged SIM cards digitally, would make telecommunications services more accessible and convenient while easing the burden of visiting service centres.

“The introduction of this digital solution is a step forward in promoting reliable and secure telecommunication services, which are critical to economic growth in the Ashanti Region,” Mr. Sadiq emphasized, urging continued collaboration between telecom operators, regulators, and government institutions to ensure secure and inclusive digital services.

The Self-Service SIM Swap platform enables MTN customers to initiate SIM replacements via *1333#, the myMTN App, or an online request form.
The system incorporates advanced biometric facial verification technology to authenticate customers, ensuring only the rightful owner can complete a SIM swap.
Speaking at the event, Nii Adotey Mingle, General Manager for MTN Ghana’s Northern Business District, described the innovation as transformative for customer service delivery.
He said it will reduce long queues, minimize fraud risks, and give subscribers the freedom to swap SIM cards anytime, anywhere.
“This rollout is part of MTN Ghana’s strategy to empower customers with greater control over their services and strengthen digital service delivery nationwide.
It is customer-driven innovation and a step toward a more connected Ghana,” Mr. Mingle added.
The launch in Kumasi’s Central Business District, attended by government officials, market leaders, and MTN executives, signals a significant push toward digital empowerment and enhanced customer experience across Ghana.
