The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene has been exposed over an alleged attempt to ‘smuggle’ a relative of his into the list of persons shortlisted for the Asante Mampong MCE position.
Highly aggrieved NDC executives at Asante Mampong have vowed to resist that move even with the last drop of their blood.
Their reasons are that, the Minister’s close relative called Esther Dwomoh is not among the three party faithfuls who expressed interest and were shortlisted for National vetting to be considered for an appointment as MCE of Asante Mampong.
They have further alleged that, the above mafia tactics is a joint orchestration by the Minister and his elder brother called Dada Alex, NDC Organiser for the constitutency.
As a way of making a public show of their anger, the red-eyed executives stormed the forecourt of the Asante Mampong Municipal Assembly on Thursday, 10th April, 2025 to petition appointing authorities through the Municipal Coordinating Director amidst protest.
Addressing the media, the Municipal Communication Officer, Kwaku Bernasco mentioned;
- Kamal Mohammed
- Yakubu Yusif
- Morro Iddrisu
as individuals who have been shortlisted for National vetting.
He added that they are the ones who toiled for the party to get massive victory “and should therefore be allowed to enjoy”.
Kwaku Bernasco is of the suspicion that, the move by the Ashanti regional Minister is fueled by tribal sentiment, explaining that the government official wants to sideline Northeners in the area and “smuggle” Esther Dwomoh into the list for the MCE position.
“I am the communication officer for NDC. I am 100% Northerner. I have been an executive for 8 good years.
What the Minister and his brother are trying to do is sending a signal to me that upon all the work I will do in this constitutency, I will never be recognized by the party.
We will never let this happen because NDC is a congress and a congress constitute people from different tribes.
NDC does not belong to Akans. It does not belong to northerners.
Those who deem fit should be allowed to enjoy.”
He further fingered that the relative of the Minister, Esther Dwomoh is young in the party.
“I brought her to the party. She is a colleague teacher and we are in the same school called Amaniampong SHS.
I brought her to the party and helped her to get a party card so we don’t see why somebody who has not worked should be allowed to take this high position in the party.
If that happens, NDC as a party at Asante Mampong will be destroyed forever.”
Below is an extract of their petition;
THE NATIONAL CHAIRMAN
NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS
ACCRA
Dear Hon.,
PETITION ON MCE APPOINTMENT
We, the undersigned constituency executives wish to exercise our displeasure about the issues surrounding the MCE appointments.
We want the regional executives to explain to us why the shortlisted candidates from the region increased to five at the National vetting. We want answers to why the party has ignored hardwork and loyalty. We say so because all the three shortlisted candidates have served the party well in the constituency and must be considered.
We need vivid explanations to why a northerner cannot lead Mampong as MCE. Precedence has been set and it must not be continued. NDC is becoming a third force in Mampong because of the northerners population. The party future is been threating if these are not addressed.
We are sorting the relief that, any one of the three candidates names (Kamil Mohammed, Yakubu Issifu and Moro Iddrisu be named as the next MCE.
Thank you.
