The Ashanti regional Minister, Dr. Amoakohene has commissioned a Ministerial Committee on Sanitation and City Greening.
The move is a decisive step towards restoring Kumasi’s status as the Garden City and ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment for all.
The committee has been tasked with:
- Developing strategic policies to improve waste management and urban greening.
- Coordinating sanitation efforts across communities, markets, and public spaces.
- Enhancing public education and awareness on responsible waste disposal.
- Assessing and advising on the reintroduction of sanitation enforcement officers to maintain discipline in key areas.
- Leading the execution of the upcoming Independence Day Sanitation Project, a major initiative to clean and beautify our city.
The commissioning happened on Tuesday, 4th March, 2024.
In a bold move, Dr. Frank Amoakohene has declared every day as a sanitation day in the Ashanti Region and charged everyone to be each other’s keeper by personally taking responsibility for their surroundings.
Beyond daily efforts, a large-scale cleanup exercise will be held every month in selected strategic areas.
To ensure accountability, he has also hinted at the introduction of radical measures, including fines and penalties for those who indiscriminately litter.
