As part of Ghana’s high-level investment and industrial outreach mission to California, H.E. Victor Emmanuel Smith, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, conducted a working visit to Robinson Helicopter Company in Torrance.

The visit aligns with Ghana’s broader strategy to strengthen partnerships with leading U.S. aerospace and advanced manufacturing firms in support of the country’s industrial transformation agenda.

During the engagement, discussions centered on potential collaboration in helicopter supply, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services, pilot and technician training, and long-term aviation servicing partnerships.

Ghana’s ambition to become a regional aviation services hub for West Africa under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) was a key topic, leveraging the country’s political stability, reform momentum, and strategic geographic location.
Ambassador Smith highlighted Ghana’s expanding aviation needs across sectors such as oil and gas logistics, mining operations, emergency medical services, tourism, and national security; areas requiring enhanced rotary-wing capacity and technical workforce development.
The visit initiated dialogue on aviation cooperation, MRO, and technical training, positioning Ghana as a potential West African helicopter servicing and distribution center.
The discussions emphasized technology and skills transfer, aligning with Ghana’s industrial value-addition and workforce capacity-building objectives, as well as strategic diversification into high-value aerospace and advanced manufacturing sectors.
This engagement marks a significant step in Ghana’s economic diplomacy, aimed at attracting advanced industrial partnerships, promoting technology transfer, and establishing the country as a competitive regional hub for aviation services in West Africa.
