In a renewed push to bring development closer to communities, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has launched six infrastructure projects aimed at improving education, healthcare, road networks and access to water across three sub-metropolitan districts.

The projects, which cut across Ashiedu Keteke, Ablekuma South and Okaikoi South, are designed to address pressing service gaps at the community level while enhancing living and learning conditions for residents.

In the education sector, the AMA is undertaking the renovation of a three-storey, nine-unit classroom block at the Private Odartey Lamptey Basic School, a move expected to improve the teaching and learning environment for pupils.
Health delivery is also set to receive a boost with planned upgrades at the Makola Clinic, a key facility serving the Central Business District and surrounding communities.

On road infrastructure, works have begun on reshaping and base preparation, including the laying of paving blocks along sections of the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue corridor to improve mobility and ease congestion in the city centre.
To improve access to potable water, the Assembly will drill and mechanise 10 boreholes in selected schools in Ablekuma South, while nine water storage facilities will be constructed in selected markets in Okaikoi South to support traders and improve sanitation.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Accra Mayor Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey said the projects reflect the Assembly’s commitment to practical, people-centred governance.
He noted that the initiatives, funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and the Assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF), are expected to be completed within four to 10 months.
The Mayor commended President John Dramani Mahama for sustained support to local authorities through the Common Fund and urged residents to partner the Assembly to ensure the successful execution and maintenance of the projects.
According to him, the AMA remains focused on delivering tangible improvements that directly impact livelihoods and support Accra’s growth as a resilient and inclusive city.
