The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Head Office has been crowned winner of a cooking competition organised as the grand finale of the Assembly’s Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana Week celebration.
Held on March 19, 2026, at the Assembly’s forecourt, the event brought together staff from various departments and sub-metropolitan areas in a lively showcase of Ghanaian culture, cuisine, and creativity.

Participants, adorned in traditional attire, prepared an array of local dishes in a bid to impress judges and celebrate the country’s rich culinary heritage.

The competition, a key highlight of the week-long initiative, sought to promote indigenous foods, support local industries, and foster a sense of unity among AMA staff.

At the end of the contest, the Head Office team emerged victorious with their expertly prepared banku and okro stew.

The Honourable Assembly Members followed closely in second place with ampesi and garden egg stew, while the Okai Koi Sub-Metro secured third with konkonte and groundnut soup.
Other participants also delivered commendable performances. The Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metro presented fufu with goat light soup, while the Ablekuma South Sub-Metro showcased beans served with fried plantain.
Addressing participants, the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, underscored the significance of the initiative in preserving Ghanaian culture and boosting local enterprise.
He reiterated that promoting locally made products remains essential for economic growth and national identity.
He further praised staff for their active involvement, noting that the event not only highlighted culinary talent but also strengthened teamwork and cultural appreciation within the Assembly.
The Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana initiative continues to serve as a platform for encouraging the consumption and promotion of locally produced goods within corporate and public institutions.
