General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua has pleaded on NDC government to allow traders whose businesses were affected by the recent fire outbreak in Kumasi to re-build the structures themselves.
He has opposed decision by government to reconstruct the area.
Addressing the media after inspecting the level of devastation, he gave reasons that “government may have good intentions to reconstruct the place for the traders but we all know government processes.
It may take time. Maybe one year, two years, three years or even four years.
The market women and men have agreed among themselves that they will all come in and help.
All they need from government is the opportunity to raise the structures themselves rather than government coming in to lead the process which will create another issue on its own”.
Justin Kodua indicated that the NPP is in full support of the above call.
He assured affected traders that the party will never turn its back on them.
General Secretary made the above plea after donating an amount of GHs 100,000 to affected traders on behalf of the National Executive Council (NEC) of NPP.
Accompanying him to the fire scene were Henry Nana Boakye (National Organiser), Bernard Antwi Bosiako a.k.a Wontumi (Ashanti regional Chairman for NPP), Raphael Sarfo Poku (Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser), Fiifi Mensah (Bantama constitutency chairman), etc.
“Even though we are in opposition, we have managed to raise some funds to support them.
We always remember them and they can rely on us.”
