In a powerful move set to shake up the capital’s innovation landscape, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, Mayor of Accra, has vowed unwavering support for a new wave of grassroots innovators — with a special focus on women and persons with disabilities leading bold, transformative projects.

Speaking at the electrifying Greater Accra Young Innovators Fair last Friday, Mayor Allotey made it clear: the future of Accra lies in the hands of its fearless youth.
“Supporting our young changemakers isn’t just the right thing — it’s a game-changing strategy,” he declared, addressing a buzzing crowd of entrepreneurs, creators, and policy makers.

“This Assembly is throwing its full weight behind anyone driving solutions for our people — especially women and the disabled who are often left behind.”

The event, powered by Impact Sync and backed by the UNDP’s Young Africa Innovates (YAI) Programme, saw over 25 young innovators unveil groundbreaking solutions in agritech, clean energy, sustainable fashion, inclusive tech, and waste management.

As Accra faces rising youth unemployment, climate challenges, and widening inequality, the Mayor’s pledge signals a major policy shift — one that positions young local entrepreneurs as the driving force of inclusive economic growth.
With City Hall’s doors now wide open to bold ideas and untapped talent, Accra’s innovation revolution may have just begun.
