MTN Ghana Foundation has resourced the state-of-the-art robotics and ICT center of the Wiamoase Diaspora Public library.
Officials of the telecommunication giant have equipped it with robotics equipment, laptops, desktop computers plus other related A.I tools to enable it serve as a training and a learning hub for students in the community and its environs.
The move is ultimately aimed at enhancing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
Commissioning of the facility was jointly carried out by officials of MTN Ghana Foundation and traditional leaders of Wiamoase on Tuesday, 26th November, 2024.
Key features of the ICT center include:
- Computer and Internet access for all community members
- Training programs for digital skills, from basic computer literacy to advanced programming and robotics
- Support for local entrepreneurs to develop digital business strategies
- A collaborative workspace for students, professionals and innovators.
The public library was put up by Wiamoase Citizens in the Diaspora.
The group have marked the ICT center as a gateway to STEM education opportunities as it equips students with technological skills to creatively solve real-world problems with innovative design-based thinking and also prepare them for future career opportunities.
Mr. Robert Kuzoe, Senior Manager-MTN Ghana Foundation told the press on the sidelines of the commissioning that the intervention which has to do with education forms part of their three focus areas which are Health, Education and Economic Empowerment.
He indicated that, same has been done for Mamfe Robotics Center, Akim Oda and Dansoman community library.
Mr. Kuzoe mentioned that Wiamoase Diaspora Public library is the first in Ashanti region to benefit from such support and that officials are looking forward to extending it to other communities.
“MTN is an engineering company and so we need to empower the young ones so that they can come out with a lot of innovations for development “.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief of Wiamoase, Nana Boakye Yiadom thanked MTN Ghana for the support.
He admonished students and residents to make good use of the opportunity and ensure proper maintenance of the facility and equipment.
Municipal Education Director for Sekyere South, Mr. Prince Owusu-Ansah also thanked officials of MTN Ghana.
In the wake of digital literacy and STEM education, he said equipping students with technological know-how is much needful since it will empower them to compete with other students across the world.
In his address, Dr. Daniel Kwame Apau, Chairman for Wiamoase Citizens in the Diaspora said the vision of the group is to transform digital barriers into bridges of opportunity.
“Wether you are a student seeking to enhance your STEM education, a professional looking to upgrade your skills, or an aspiring entrepreneur, this center is your launchpad…This center will help reduce unemployment, stimulate economic growth and ensure no one is left behind in the digital revolution”.
