Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several high-profile government officials and military personnel in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region.

In a statement shared via his official Facebook page, the former president described the nation as being β€œprofoundly shocked and saddened” by the devastating news.

The crash, which occurred earlier today, resulted in the deaths of key national figures, including:

  • Hon. Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
  • Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, MP for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment and Science
  • Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
  • Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the ruling NDC
  • Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East
  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
  • Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu
  • Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah

The news was confirmed by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

β€œI have spoken and extended my deepest condolences to the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and to Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the NDC,” the former president stated.

Akufo-Addo also extended sympathies to the Ghana Air Force, recognizing the fallen officers’ service and the continued sacrifice of Ghana’s military. β€œI condole with our gallant men of the Ghana Airforce at this concerning time and salute their indispensable role in the public life of our country,” he said.

He concluded with a solemn prayer: β€œMay they find peaceful rest in the Bosom of the Almighty, until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall all meet again.”

The nation remains in mourning as further investigations are expected to be launched into the cause of the crash.
