Ghana’s Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has reaffirmed the country’s dedication to integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its education system, as part of an ambitious national transformation agenda.

The statement was made during the 2025 UNESCO Digital Learning Week in Paris, where global education leaders convened to shape the future of digital learning.

Leading Ghana’s delegation to the international summit, Hon. Iddrisu emphasized the significant strides Ghana has made since 2019 in incorporating AI into its education framework. These include the integration of AI competencies into the basic education curriculum and the expansion of AI learning across STEM disciplines at all levels from basic to tertiary education.

In a major announcement, the Minister unveiled Ghana’s National AI Strategy, a bold initiative designed to train one million youth in AI and develop 10,000 AI researchers by 2033.

This long-term plan aims to equip Ghana’s young population with the digital skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven global economy.

“Our commitment to AI in education is not just about technology, but about preparing our youth for the jobs and challenges of the future,” said Hon. Iddrisu in a statement shared on his official Facebook page.
The UNESCO Digital Learning Week serves as a global platform for governments, educators, and tech leaders to collaborate on innovative policies and strategies that will shape the digital learning landscape of tomorrow. Ghana’s participation and forward-looking announcements signal its growing leadership in digital education across Africa.
