The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the Akwatia by-election has prompted introspection at all levels of the party and a strong signal from former Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh that the path to recovery lies in unity, discipline, and a clear long-term strategy.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, widely regarded as an influential figure within the NPP, acknowledged the sting of recent electoral setbacks but urged supporters to focus on the bigger picture: preparing for victory in 2028.

“Our recent setbacks are undeniable, but in every trial lies a turning point,” he wrote.
“If we unite with one purpose, set our minds on a shared vision, and work with discipline, 2028 will be ours to win.”

While not directly addressing the causes of the Akwatia loss, Napo’s tone suggests an early attempt to reframe the defeat as an opportunity for strategic recalibration rather than a sign of irreversible decline.

His call to “win for Ghana’s progress and for generations to come” echoes growing internal sentiments that the party must return to grassroots organizing, rebuild public trust, and present a compelling vision for the future — particularly to younger and undecided voters.

Observers note that Napo’s message, marked by hashtags like #WithOurOwnHands and #HopeForGhana, aligns with recent calls within the NPP for introspection and generational renewal.

Though currently outside of government, Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s continued engagement suggests he remains a key voice in shaping the party’s strategic direction ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The coming weeks are expected to see more senior figures weigh in, as the NPP begins the process of rebuilding and repositioning for 2028.
