The Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has called on Ghanaian youth, particularly students of Asante descent, to harness their cultural heritage as a force for national transformation.

He made this call during his address as Guest of Honour at the Grand Durbar Homecoming and Handover Ceremony of the Asante Students Union (ASU) at the University of Ghana, Legon, held under the theme “Igniting the Asante Spirit: Striving for Development in All Spheres.”

In his speech, Hon. Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the Asante spirit goes beyond cultural symbolism, describing it as a legacy of “resilience, innovation, unity and progress.” He urged the student body to rise above partisan politics and channel the values of their heritage into meaningful contributions to Ghana’s development.

“The Asante spirit is not merely a cultural identity, but a heritage that calls on us to rise above partisan divisions and embrace unity and innovation for the sake of national progress,” he noted.

The MP lauded the outgoing ASU leadership for their commitment to fostering cultural pride and unity among students. He also encouraged the newly sworn-in executives to be guided by a sense of responsibility and national service in the discharge of their duties.

Hon. Afenyo-Markin’s participation in the event underscores his continued engagement with youth-focused initiatives and his advocacy for cultural pride as a catalyst for national growth.
