The newly formed committee has been mandated to supervise the sale and disbursement of premix fuel at the local level, ensuring strict compliance with national regulations. It will also be responsible for fostering accountability in the use of proceeds to support sustainable community development projects.

The committee is made up of a diverse group of local stakeholders, including fishermen, fishmongers, youth leaders, traditional authorities, and a representative from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Allotey emphasized the importance of unity, fairness, and transparency in the management of premix fuel—a resource vital to the livelihoods of fishing communities.

“This marks a renewed commitment to ensure that premix fuel is distributed equitably and managed in accordance with national standards,” the Mayor said. “We are determined to eliminate hoarding and favoritism, and to direct proceeds toward real development in our fishing communities.”
He further urged members of the committee to act with integrity and a sense of duty, warning that any member found engaging in malpractice—such as hoarding or denying others access to resources—would be swiftly replaced.
The establishment of the committee signals the city’s ongoing efforts to strengthen local governance and restore trust in the administration of essential resources within coastal communities.
