Ghana’s Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the signing of two landmark agreements with Japan aimed at deepening educational cooperation between the two nations.

The accords were formalized during his official visit to Japan, where he engaged with the Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, as well as leaders from the renowned tech education organization, Life is Tech Japan.

The strategic partnership is focused on enhancing the quality of education in Ghana, with a strong emphasis on sustainable development and equipping Ghanaian youth with essential digital skills.

“This collaboration is a transformative step in realizing the goals of Ghana’s Education Strategic Plan (2018–2030),” Hon. Iddrisu stated. “It aligns with our national priorities to build resilient, inclusive, and future-ready education systems.”
Key components of the agreement include:

- Capacity-building through teacher training and curriculum development
- Promotion of green skills within Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for sustainable industries
- Expansion of STEM and digital innovation initiatives
- Student exchange programs and joint tertiary education research
- Integration of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) across schools and communities
- Delivery of comprehensive coding courses to strengthen digital literacy and problem-solving skills
Minister Iddrisu lauded Japan’s continued support for Ghana’s educational sector, particularly through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and programs such as the Sakura Science Exchange.
He emphasized the shared commitment to using education as a foundation for peaceful, resilient, and sustainable societies.
“This partnership is not just about skill development — it’s about shaping the future of our young people and creating pathways for mutual growth and innovation,” he concluded.
The agreements mark a significant milestone in Ghana-Japan relations and are expected to yield long-term benefits for both countries.
