In a heartfelt statement signed by its president, Moses Onyah, the association praised the late icon for his immense contributions to Ghana’s music landscape, particularly in promoting the highlife genre. The association noted that Daddy Lumba’s vast musical repertoire, which spans over 200 songs, touched every aspect of social life—from gospel and political anthems to rap, reggae, and classic highlife.

“DL is truly the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT),” the statement read. “His music resonated with people from all walks of life and continues to be a cultural treasure for Ghanaians worldwide.”

The association also recalled Daddy Lumba’s 1999 hit Eko Den, in which he appeared to urge the public not to be quick to judge individuals who drink—a message that the Drunkards Association described as “empathetic” and “timely,” reflecting the artist’s understanding of social dynamics.

In extending their condolences to the bereaved family, especially his wife and children, the association offered prayers for strength and comfort during this difficult time. They also issued a call for moderation among their members in the wake of the emotional news.

“DL, we love you and wish you had stayed a bit longer to keep entertaining us with your smooth and incomparable songs. But your maker loves you best,” the statement concluded.

Daddy Lumba remains one of Ghana’s most iconic and influential musicians, with a career spanning several decades and a legacy that continues to inspire generations.
