PRESS RELEASE

GNACOPS Commends Government for Including 60 Private Senior High Schools in the Free SHS Policy

The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of Education, and the Ghana Education Service for the historic inclusion of sixty (60) private senior high schools in the implementation of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy for the 2025/2026 academic year.

This progressive move marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s educational transformation journey. It underscores the Government’s commitment to inclusive, collaborative education delivery and reaffirms the important role of private schools in advancing national development goals. We acknowledge the tireless efforts of the Honourable Minister for Education, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, and all stakeholders whose vision and dedication have brought this initiative to life.

To the General Public

We wish to inform parents, guardians, and the entire nation that these selected private senior high schools have been approved to receive students under the Free SHS policy. These schools offer diverse academic programmes across all regions of Ghana and are expected to uphold the highest standards of accountability and transparency in the implementation of this policy.

To the Broader Private Education Community Community

We recognize the concerns of private schools not yet included. We wish to assure all stakeholders that the government, GNACOPS, and relevant agencies are working behind the scenes to expand this collaboration. The ultimate goal is to include all qualified and quality-assured private senior high schools in future cohorts.

We encourage continued patience, preparation, and compliance with regulatory standards to strengthen your eligibility for subsequent admissions under the Free SHS policy.

Call to Action

We urge the approved schools to serve as ambassadors of excellence, demonstrating through conduct, teaching, and management that the private sector is a trustworthy and capable partner in delivering free, equitable, and quality education for all Ghanaian children.

GNACOPS remains committed to engaging stakeholders, shaping policy, and ensuring that private education continues to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s national agenda.

Signed

Obento Nana Kwasi Gyetuah
