In a video that is quickly spreading across social media, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has boldly spoken against the newly introduced one cedi levy on every litre of fuel.
In the video, Chairman Wontumi described the fuel levy as “completely unacceptable,” saying it does not make sense for citizens to be charged an extra one cedi for every litre of fuel they buy.

“This one cedi levy is unheard of anywhere in the world,” he said. According to him, such a decision puts more pressure on already struggling Ghanaians.

He urged those in charge to rethink the policy, warning that it could create more problems for ordinary people.
Wontumi also talked about the pricing of gold in Ghana. He mentioned that the price of a pound of gold has dropped significantly under the current leadership of the Ghanaian Gold Board (GOLDBOD).

“A pound of gold was sold at GHS 13,000 during the NPP administration, but now it has dropped to GHS 8,000,” he said.
He believes this drop is a sign of poor management and has raised alarm about the direction the country is heading.
The video has triggered a lot of reactions from Ghanaians online. Some people have praised Chairman Wontumi for speaking the truth without fear, while others feel he is only doing so because things are not in the party’s favor anymore.
