Top-Bottom Tyranny: Why the NPP Desperately Needs a New Face in Leadership
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reached a tipping point—not because of external enemies, but because of internal arrogance, mismanagement, and a dangerous obsession with control by some elements within our national leadership.
The recent comments by Dr. China, National Treasurer of the party, have confirmed what many grassroots members have long feared: the so-called “top-bottom approach” being forced down the party’s throat is not only unconstitutional—it is a calculated recipe for chaos.
Let us be clear: Not every NEC member supports this flawed approach. Dr. China boldly stated, “I’m totally against the top-bottom approach because it is a recipe for chaos. It’s a lie that every NEC member was for it. Many of us spoke against it.”
So, if key decision-makers such as the National Treasurer are raising red flags, who then is pushing this dangerous agenda?
The General Secretary’s poor performance on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen show, where he failed to directly answer critical questions posed by Lawyer Osei Bonsu (OB), exposed the intellectual and strategic bankruptcy that currently plagues the top echelon of our party.
This is a leadership issue branded in a crisis of credibility.
The entire nation watched in disbelief as our own party leadership tried to force the election of a flagbearer without first addressing the foundational issues critical to our forward movement:
• The expansion of polling station executives
• Reconstitution of electoral area coordinators and their team of five
• Voting to expand constituency, regional, and national portfolios
We all agreed, including at NEC and National Council meetings, that these issues would be addressed at the National Delegates Conference scheduled for July 19, 2025. So why the indecent rush to select a flagbearer before resolving these? What are they afraid of?
The answer is clear: some selfish individuals in leadership want to impose their chosen candidate through a compromised, outdated structure that no longer reflects the will of the current party base.
This is not just unconstitutional—it is morally bankrupt and politically suicidal.
The NPP must understand this one truth: you cannot build unity on deception. You cannot impose leadership on a party that is built on democratic ideals and expect loyalty. This top-down imposition has nothing to do with progress. It is a desperate power grab by individuals who fear true competition.
Enough is Enough. We Need a New Face. We Need New Leadership.
The 2024 general elections were a bitter lesson. We cannot afford to walk blindly into another disaster in 2028. The same old faces who brought shame to the party in 2024 are now scheming to entrench themselves and impose leadership from the top.
We will resist.
We will mobilize.
We will demand a bottom-up, inclusive, transparent, and constitutionally sound process that reflects the true will of the people—from polling station to presidency.
To the national executives who are trying to hijack the party for selfish gain: Your time is up.
A new era of bold, accountable, grassroots-focused leadership must emerge. The base is watching, and this time, we will not be silent.
