The MTN-sponsored Ashanti Konnect Music Festival succeeded in equipping participants with tips against Momo fraud.

Aside the electrifying Gospel and secular music performances by iconic artists including Brother Sammy, Jack Alolome, Daughters of Glorious JESUS, Tagoe Sisters, Okyeame Kwame, Strong Man, etc, the program was blended with a close to 45-minutes-long theatrical performance on Momo fraud by a drama troupe of the Kumasi cultural center.

A giant video display of a message against Mobile Money fraud from Godwin Kwami Tamakloe, Senior Manager with the Anti-Money Laundering, Fraud, Compliance and Risk Unit of MTN Ghana was also inclusive.

The above strategic inclusion by the telecommunications giant is a step aimed at mitigating current Mobile Money Fraud activities on their network, enlighten participants on how to detect fraud patterns and report such activities as subscribers.

During the prologue stage of the music festival which was held at the Rattray Park in Kumasi on Saturday 19th April, 2025, the mobile financial service professional, Godwin Kwami Tamakloe in the video advised the excited crowd to avoid sharing their Momo PIN.

He also admonished them to avoid using their date of birth or easy-to-remember digits as their PIN, explained that such are easily accessed by fraudsters.

Godwin Tamakloe urged them not to entertain demands from calls that do not bear the official contact of MTN.

“Such callers are fraudsters”, he warned.

Touching on online marketing momo transactions, he said subscribers must always ensure that the registered business name aligns with name of the recipient company they are purchasing from or doing business with.

He underscored that, adherance to the above, will save a momo subscriber from falling for an engineered scam.
