Former Vice President cum NPP 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia turned the Central Business District (CBD) of Kumasi agog when he visited areas affected by the recent fire outbreak.
Traders who were in sorrowful mood owing to scale of devastation done to their business by the merciless inferno assumed a jubilant posture immediately they sighted the arrival of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The high-spirited crowd of affected traders bid him welcome with “woy3 y3 y3 a Bawumia b3ba and Bawumia na y3 p3” chants at the time the former Vice President was in the middle of an interview he granted on the sidelines.
Accompanying him to the area were the Ashanti Regional Chairman for NPP Mr. Benard Antwi Bosiako a.k.a “Wontumi”, former Ashanti regional Minister Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, MP for Subin Constituency Hon Kofi Obiri Yeboah, former MP for Nhyiaeso Hon. Kankam etc.
Commiserating with the traders, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia donated an amount of GHs 200,000 and a thousand bags of cement to those whose business were affected and also pledged to support the rebuilding effort.
He called on government to provide all the necessary aid to enable the traders get back to business.
Addressing the media, Dr. Bawumia described the scene as heart-wrenching, saying “it has given him sleepless nights after noticing the level of devastation.”
