According to a report from Modern Ghana, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has issued a firm warning to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In an interview with GHOne TV on February 3, 2025, Dr. Amoakohene stated that if investigations link Chairman Wontumi to illegal mining, also known as “galamsey,” he will face legal action.
Dr. Amoakohene emphasized that no one, regardless of their political or social standing, will be exempt from prosecution if involved in illegal activities.
He affirmed that the law would be applied equally to all, and Chairman Wontumi would face consequences if found guilty.
This statement reflects the government’s firm stance against illegal mining and its commitment to holding individuals accountable for such activities, regardless of their position.
The government has been making efforts to combat the detrimental effects of illegal mining, and this latest development serves as a warning that no one is above the law.
