ASSOCIATION OF LIBERAL MUSLIMS-GHANA IN COLLABORATION WITH
COALITION OF CONCERNED MUSLIMS OF GHANA.

PRESS STATEMENT
24th October, 2024

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s Misguided Claims, an insult to IMAMS and MUSLIMS in Ghana.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh(NAPO), the running mate of the NPP, sparked a controversy with his recent unjustifiable allegation at a campaign event in Kumasi, at Bantama few weeks ago, he
claimed that former deputy minister of education, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa’s leadership initiated the curriculum that included the wayward Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) with LGBTQ+ content for minors in our basic schools.

Furthermore, he alleged that we the Imams and pastors were those contracted by the then deputy
education minister to accelerate the promotion and propagation of the disgusting CSE, and LGBTQI content in the county, when that devious act violated our faith and doctrine, which we
publicly and fiercely opposed it when the issue was topical in this county, hence, goes contrary to the dictates of the holy Quran and the teachings of the holy prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him.

This baseless accusation against us is nothing but a deliberate attempt to tarnish our image and a mockery of ISLAM and Muslims in Ghana, hence creating a serious outrage, as no devoted
Muslim who jealously protects his faith would allow for any individual to commit such blasphemy and goes away with.

We are once again peacefully calling on NAPO to either emphatically mention the names of those Imams he claimed were contracted to influence the teaching of CSE and LGBTQ content in our teaching and learning centers or as a matter of
urgency retract and apologize to the Muslim community.

Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) aims to provide scientifically accurate information about human development, sexuality, reproduction, and healthy relationships.

However, NAPO’s actions suggest a deliberate attempt to conflate CSE with LGBTQ+ ideologies, fueling unnecessary controversy and divisiveness.

The backlash was intensified when a textbook, intended for testing, was discovered to have LGBTQ+ content under NAPO, the then Minister of Education.

This incident raises serious concerns about NAPO’s intentions and commitment to Ghana’s
cultural and social values under his ministry.

NAPO’s actions have significant implications. He contributes to a growing climate of homophobia in Ghana, where LGBTQ+ individuals already face severe discrimination and persecution.

By politicizing CSE, NAPO jeopardizes the provision of accurate and comprehensive information to young people, leaving them vulnerable to misinformation and harm.

It is important to recognize the harm caused by NAPO’s misinformation and hold leaders accountable for promoting factual information and respecting the rights and dignity of all individuals.

We must demand accuracy, promote inclusivity, and empower young people to think critically.

The Ghanaian public deserves truth and transparency, not divisive politics and misinformation.

It’s time to focus on the real issues affecting our nation rather than fabricating controversies for
political gain.

We hereby give a three 3 days ultimatum to do the needful to avoid our next line
of action.

At this juncture, we call on the high office of Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia to caution his running mate and call him to order.

Thank you
