Earlier this afternoon, I was privileged to receive in my office Pradeep Wagle and Minjae Lee Chief Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Section and Human Rights Officer of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The discussion centred on the dynamics of human rights at the local level, knowledge sharing, and capacity building within the context of promotion and protection of human rights.

I extensively spoke on the interventions of the Banjul City Council in creating the enabling environment for the promotion and protection of human rights notably for women and children in the city over the years.

In another engagement, I was honoured to welcome a team from the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) led by Mr. Oumar Sylla, UN-HABITAT’s Director Regional Office for Africa.

The discussion focused on the urgent need to holistically identify and address common strategies for promoting sustainable urbanization in the country.

The visit of the UN Habitat comes ahead of the high-level roundtable on sustainable and Integrated Urbanization Processes in The Gambia schedule to kick off tomorrow at Bakadaji Hotel along the Bertil Harding Highway.
