As we continue to develop the Banjul Safe City Project, I am excited to unveil fully funded projects which will together contribute to the overall implementation of my vision for our city.
Today, I presided over the orientation of over 100 volunteers for the inner city cleaning project under the Bloomberg Youth Climate Action Fund Phase 1. I also handed over to the project lead, 7tricycles and numerous other accompaniments to assist the youth in carrying out this all-important exercise for a cleaner city. The project will also involve waste management advocacy and will collaborate with other micro-grant recipients focusing on preserving our marine biodiversity, the city’s wetlands and mangrove environment amongst other climate-centric interventions.
Together with our partners, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Banjul City Council and REFELA The Gambia, we are proud of this youth-led initiative which emphasizes the trust we have in our young people in providing practical solutions to our city’s problems.
As work has already begun in earnest, I believe the next few months will be transformative for the city’s environment and will be the beginning of a new dawn for waste management in Banjul.
My vision for Banjul is one step closer to reality with this new initiative!
