Akwasi Owusu Afrifa-Mensa, a Member of Parliament for Amasaman, has acknowledged Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as one of Ghana’s most effective education ministers.
He said that the prior Education Minister was responsible for the lack of widespread teacher strikes.
He stated that the decision to select NAPO, as he is affectionately known, is the ideal choice for a running mate, and that the party must rally behind him and the presidential candidate to win success in the upcoming December presidential and parliamentary elections.
The MP speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, Mr. Afrifa-Mensa, said, “Dr. Opoku Prempeh, as Education Minister, successfully implemented the free SHS policy. Under his leadership, he constructed several infrastructural projects in the education sector.
He oversaw the restoration of the teacher training allowance. Aside from that, we did not witness any teacher strikes.
When he got the opportunity as Energy Minister, we also witnessed stable power. The recent ones witnessed were not dumsors but challenges that were restored, and we now have stable power.”
He was optimistic that NAPO will complement Dr. Bawumia since he is a grassroots leader with the political expertise required to guarantee their win.
“Dr. Opoku Prempeh comes along with enormous experience. In this moment of time, he is the right choice as the running mate for the party. I am therefore appealing to the party to support the choice and rally behind him so he will work alongside our candidate so we can secure the victory for us and he will be sworn in as Vice President on January 7, 2024.”
