The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the opening of nominations for candidates aspiring to contest in the parliamentary primary for the Manhyia South constituency.

This move comes as the party seeks a replacement for Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who has been named as the running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to the party’s statement, the nomination period for aspiring parliamentary candidates (APCs) will commence on Monday, July 8, 2024, and the deadline for submission is Tuesday, July 9, 2024. The election is set to take place on Sunday, July 14, 2024.

Aspiring candidates are required to pick up their nomination forms after paying a non-refundable application fee of GH₵3,000 via a banker’s draft payable to the NPP National Headquarters in Accra.

Additionally, candidates must pay a non-refundable filing fee of GH₵35,000 in a banker’s draft to ensure full compliance with the nomination procedures.

The party has extended a 50% rebate on filing fees to women and persons living with disabilities, reducing their non-refundable fee to GH₵17,500.

The statement also defines youth candidates as those aged between 18 and 40. The Elections Committee (EC) responsible for overseeing the electoral process includes seven key members: Chairperson Danquah Smith Butey, Vice Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, and Secretary Evans Nimako, among others.

The NPP has also established comprehensive rules and regulations to govern the conduct of the upcoming parliamentary primary election.
