The Asokwa Police in Kumasi has arrested Miss Mercy Agyei, a contract worker of the Adum branch of ABSA Bank Ghana for allegedly stealing GHc75,000.00.
The money belongs to her former employer, Ikson Properties Agency Limited.
Mercy Agyei, 28, was arrested last Saturday night and detained overnight.
Her arrest at a hideout at Ayigya, a suburb of Kumasi over the weekend, followed a complaint lodged with the Asokwa Police station.
The complainant company reported that on November 2, 2023, the former marketing student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), who was in charge of sales and marketing was requested to follow up a payment in Kumasi for the company.
The suspect reportedly collected the GHc75,000.00 cash and endorsed an official receipt for the payment and went into hiding.
According to the complainant, Mercy Agyei, did not only refuse to answer calls from the company but also moved out of her known place of abode at South Suntreso in Kumasi.
The Asokwa police have confirmed the lodging of a formal complaint to that effect which led to her arrest on Saturday.
She has confirmed the signature on the receipt to the police.
The suspect has, since last Sunday, been granted police enquiry bail at the instance of the Asokwa Police Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Acheampong, while investigations continue. E N D
