Ghana’s Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debrah has called for stronger relationships across political lines, using his long-standing connection with former President John Agyekum Kufuor as an example of how personal bonds can transcend politics.

Speaking at the Accra Friendship Forever Club dinner on Saturday, March 8, 2026, Hon. Julius stressed that Ghana’s development depends not only on policies but also on the ability of leaders and citizens to maintain mutual respect and cordial relationships despite political differences.

Hon. Julius Debrah, who currently serves under President John Dramani Mahama, shared a personal story dating back to his days at Achimota School.

According to him, his relationship with the Kufuor family began when he was a sixth-form student and served as the school father to Kofi Kufuor, the son of the former president.

He recalled that during those years, neither he nor the Kufuor family could have predicted the paths their lives would later take.

“When I was a sixth former in Achimota School, Kofi Kufuor was my school son. At the time, we did not know President Kufuor would become a Head of State one day, and I also did not know I would become a politician,” he said.

Debrah added that over the years, the former president often welcomed him to his residence at Airport in Accra and offered him advice and support.

Reflecting on the journey from their early acquaintance to their current positions in public life, Debrah noted that their story highlights the enduring value of relationships.

He further urged Ghanaians to avoid allowing political affiliations to damage personal ties, stressing that unity and brotherliness are essential for national progress.

His remarks come at a time when political tensions often dominate public discourse, with the Chief of Staff emphasising that collaboration and mutual respect remain crucial to strengthening Ghana’s democratic culture.
