Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has highlighted renewed diplomatic and economic cooperation between Ghana and the United Kingdom following a high-level meeting with British officials.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, the minister disclosed that he was warmly hosted by the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Yvette Cooper, during discussions aimed at strengthening the historic ties between the two nations.

According to Mr. Ablakwa, the meeting was “exceptionally fruitful and substantive,” with both sides focusing on ways to enhance the longstanding and inseparable relationship between Ghana and the UK.

A key area of discussion was bilateral trade. The Foreign Affairs Minister noted that trade between the two countries has already increased by 10 percent, and both governments are exploring innovative pathways to expand commerce further.

These plans include opening new markets for Ghanaian and UK businesses and creating more opportunities for young entrepreneurs in both countries.

The talks also covered security cooperation and counterterrorism initiatives, reflecting a shared commitment to maintaining regional and global stability.

As part of efforts to deepen the partnership, Mr. Ablakwa revealed that Ghana and the United Kingdom will host a major Ghana-UK Investment Summit in May.

The summit will be held under the distinguished patronage of Ghana’s President, John Mahama, and is expected to bring together investors and business leaders from both countries.

The minister emphasized that both nations remain committed to strengthening their strategic alliance and building on the gains made in revitalizing bilateral relations.

The Ghana-UK partnership has long been regarded as a significant diplomatic and economic relationship, covering areas such as trade, education, governance, and security cooperation.
