With the New Patriotic Party (NPP) nearing its presidential primaries, delegates have been urged to resist monetary inducements and personal favours in the selection of the party’s next flagbearer.

In a statement by Dr. Baafi Abdul-Muhsin, he cautioned that votes should not be exchanged for money, stressing that leadership obtained through financial influence often breeds corruption, weakens accountability, and erodes public confidence in governance.
He noted that the decision before party delegates carries national significance, as the NPP flagbearer stands a strong chance of becoming the next President of the Republic of Ghana.

According to him, the outcome of the primaries will play a crucial role in determining the country’s future political and developmental direction.
Dr. Abdul-Muhsin called on delegates and party executives to rely on clear moral and leadership principles in making their choice, urging them to reject candidates who encourage tribalism, religious division, or discrimination in any form.

Such actions, he warned, pose a serious threat to national unity and social harmony.
The statement also expressed concern about aspirants who exhibit excessive aggression, desperation for power, or poor emotional control, emphasizing that effective leadership requires humility, discipline, integrity, and respect for others rather than insults and personal attacks.
He further advised delegates to be cautious of politicians driven by selfish interests, including those seeking to exploit state resources, manipulate public contracts, or make unrealistic and misleading campaign promises. Ghana, he said, needs leaders focused on transparency, accountability, and sustainable national development.
Dr. Abdul-Muhsin warned that failure to exercise sound judgment during the primaries could have long-term consequences for Ghana’s democracy, economy, and stability.
He concluded by urging delegates to protect the gains made by past and present leaders in democratic governance, infrastructure, and economic reforms, stressing that Ghana must continue to move forward and not regress.
“The future of Ghana is in your hands,” the statement said. “Ghana is not for sale.”
