The Member of Parliament for the Subin Constituency, Hon. Lawyer Kofi Obiri Yeboah, has strongly criticized President John Dramani Mahama’s first year in office, describing it as “a big disaster and total failure.”

Speaking in an interview granted on Oyerepa TV few days before Christmas, the legislator accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC)-led administration of neglecting the interests of the youth.

According to Hon. Obiri Yeboah, President Mahama, prior to assuming office, promised to create employment opportunities for young people if the NDC returned to power.
However, he argued that the administration began its tenure by revoking employment appointments that had been granted to several young people under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

The MP described the cancellation of those appointments as “callous,” stating that any political decision not geared toward the prosperity of the youth reflects a lack of compassion.
“If you enter into politics and your mind is not tuned to the prosperity of the youth, it means you are a callous person,” he said, adding that he would oppose any policy decision that does not benefit young people.
Hon. Obiri Yeboah also criticized the government’s economic management, particularly its efforts to stabilize the cedi.
He also criticised the spending billions of Ghana cedis to strengthen the local currency against the US dollar, resources he believes could have been invested in critical infrastructure such as hospitals.
He further argued that despite the apparent appreciation of the cedi, the cost of goods and services remains high, suggesting that the government’s currency stabilization efforts have not translated into real relief for ordinary Ghanaians.
The comments add to ongoing political debate over the performance of the Mahama administration in its first year in office, especially in the areas of youth employment and economic management.
