MTN Ghana, Northern Business District, has held this year’s MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) Dinner and Awards Night, an annual event organised to celebrate and reward outstanding partners, merchants and agents across the country.

The event took place on Tuesday at the Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi and attracted a large number of agents and key stakeholders from the Bono, Ahafo, Bono East and Ashanti regions.

The awardees were recognised for their exceptional performance and commitment, which have significantly contributed to the growth of MTN Mobile Money Limited.

The colourful dinner and awards night was characterised by the presentation of cash prizes and high-value items, including motorbikes, to deserving recipients who distinguished themselves in various performance categories.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the event, the General Manager of MTN Northern Business District, Nii Adotey Mingle, explained that beyond recognising excellence, the awards also highlight MTN’s strong partnership with government and other stakeholders, aimed at growing the mobile money industry to its highest potential.

He expressed optimism about Ghana’s rapidly evolving financial ecosystem, citing innovations such as digital lending, virtual assets and open banking as key drivers of financial inclusion.

On security, Mr. Mingle indicated that MTN Ghana continues to collaborate with state security agencies to ensure swift action whenever mobile money-related incidents occur. He also cautioned customers to be wary of fraudsters, advising them not to entertain calls that do not originate from MTN Ghana’s official contact lines.

“Nobody should convince you to divulge your PIN. Keep your PIN a secret. It should only be you who should know the number,” he cautioned.

Also speaking on security matters, the Senior Manager for Commercial Mobile Money, Abdul-Majeed Rufai, announced that MTN Ghana is set to roll out a nationwide re-registration exercise for all mobile money agents beginning next year.

According to him, the exercise has become necessary due to instances where some agents have been operating with other people’s details. He recalled cases where fraudulent agents were arrested only to discover they were transacting under false identities.

“The exercise is a way of sanitising the system and ensuring that we have genuine agents, as well as a secure and free ecosystem to operate in,” Mr. Rufai stated.

The MTN MoMo Dinner and Awards Night once again reaffirmed MTN Ghana’s commitment to rewarding excellence, strengthening security, and driving innovation within the country’s mobile money ecosystem.
