The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has met with a high-level delegation from the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations (GFD) to advance ongoing collaboration aimed at strengthening disability-inclusive development across the country.

The delegation, led by GFD President Mr. Joseph Atsu Humadzi, paid the courtesy call as part of continuous engagements with the Ministry to improve access to social protection services and enhance government responsiveness to the needs of persons with disabilities.

This meeting follows an earlier engagement focused on expanding inclusive education, improving disability-focused interventions, and strengthening services for children, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities.

During the discussion, the Federation reiterated the urgent need to review and re-enact the Persons with Disability Act to ensure full alignment with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).

They also called for the upgrading of rehabilitation and vocational training centres nationwide to boost skills development and employability among persons with disabilities.

Proposals such as the introduction of employment quotas were highlighted as key measures to improve job accessibility.

The delegation further underscored the importance of strengthened stakeholder education, improved coordination among implementing agencies, and the adoption of strategies that address the diverse needs of all disability groups.

They emphasized that unity within the disability sector remains crucial for effective advocacy, particularly in the face of limited resources.

Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey commended the Federation for its sustained engagement and partnership. She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to advancing disability rights and welfare, assuring the delegation that their recommendations would feed into ongoing policy reforms and programme reviews.

According to her, disability inclusion remains a top priority for government under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
