2024 running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia , Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has openly admitted that some of his own public statements during the 2024 election campaign season contributed to growing voter dissatisfaction with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a candid statement shared on his official Facebook page, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, widely known as NAPO said he has been reflecting deeply on the role his remarks played in shaping public sentiment during a fiercely contested election year.

The comments follow a recent interview with journalist Evans Mensah, during which he addressed concerns raised about the party’s campaign messaging and tone.
According to NAPO, leadership demands the willingness to confront one’s own shortcomings, especially during critical political moments.
“Leadership requires honesty, and honesty begins with accepting one’s share of responsibility,” he wrote.

“Every one of us including NPP leaders, members, communicators, organisers and supporters must be willing to look in the mirror and reflect on what we could have done better.”
His admission comes at a time when the NPP is undergoing an intense period of introspection following its electoral performance, with many within the party calling for unity, humility, and reforms. Analysts say NAPO’s statement may signal a broader shift among senior figures pushing for accountability as the party looks to rebuild public trust.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized that renewal within the NPP must begin with frank conversations about mistakes made on the campaign trail whether in messaging, engagement, or internal coordination.
He encouraged members to prioritize reconciliation and collective responsibility as the party reorganizes.
“That is the only way to rebuild trust, restore unity, and become a stronger Party and a stronger nation,” he noted, framing personal accountability as a necessary step for national progress as well.
The former Energy Minister added that the post-election period has provided him an opportunity for “deep reflection, learning, and growth,” and vowed to listen more attentively to public concerns moving forward. He reiterated his commitment to a political culture that elevates service, integrity, and patriotism over personal ambition.

“We cannot change yesterday, but we can take responsibility for it and use it to build a better tomorrow,” he wrote, concluding his message with hashtags promoting service-driven leadership and national hope.
Political observers believe NAPO’s statement could help shape ongoing internal discussions about the NPP’s future direction, as the party seeks to reconnect with its base and refine its message ahead of future political contests.
