Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic deaths of young Ghanaians who lost their lives in the recent stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium during a Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, the Minister called on the nation to unite in prayer for the souls of the deceased and for the recovery of those who remain hospitalized.

“May we all continue to pray for the souls of our young compatriots who died in the El-Wak stampede and those who remain hospitalized. We ask God to console their families and grant them divine fortitude,” Hon. Ablakwa wrote.
He described the incident as a painful reminder of the need to prioritize the safety and dignity of citizens who respond patriotically to national service calls.

“No Ghanaian should ever lose their life for patriotically and courageously responding to a national call to be recruited into the Ghana Armed Forces so they can protect us. Those who seek to wear uniforms to protect us also deserve our full protection,” he added.
Hon. Ablakwa further emphasized the importance of drawing lessons from the tragedy and implementing reforms in the recruitment process, echoing assurances made by the President that measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“We must learn lessons, reform recruitment processes as the President has assured, and pledge that never again shall this avoidable tragedy be allowed to happen,” he concluded.
The El-Wak stampede has drawn widespread public concern and calls for accountability, as Ghanaians continue to mourn the loss of promising young lives who had aspired to serve their country.
