The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has led a parliamentary delegation to visit victims of the recent Ghana Armed Forces recruitment tragedy, describing the incident as both “tragic and avoidable.”

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Speaker Bagbin expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and injuries sustained during the recruitment exercise. He lamented the loss of young Ghanaians who, he said, were driven by hope and a desire to serve their country.

“It is disturbing that young people who dream and are hopeful about the prospects of our nation die and others injured in such tragic and avoidable manner,” the Speaker said.
During the visit, the parliamentary team donated an undisclosed amount of money to assist victims and their families with medical and related expenses. Speaker Bagbin offered words of comfort to the bereaved families and extended prayers for the recovery of those injured.

“May God comfort the grieving families, friends and the nation. I also pray for speedy recovery for the injured. May the souls of our dearly beloved sister rest in peace,” he added.

The Ghana Armed Forces recruitment tragedy has sparked national outrage and calls for accountability over the circumstances that led to the fatalities. Parliament is expected to take up the matter in the coming days as part of broader discussions on public safety and youth recruitment processes.
