The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso Constituency, Hon. Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, has taken a swipe at the Mahama-led administration, accusing it of failing to take decisive and effective action to end the ongoing illegal mining (galamsey) menace that continues to devastate Ghana’s environment.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Prof. Nyarko expressed strong dissatisfaction with what he described as President John Mahama’s “too much talk but no reliable action” approach to the galamsey crisis.

“The talking is too much. Ghanaians are not interested. President Mahama, you must do something. You have a term to rule us. Show leadership. Let Ghanaians know that you were the President who was able to fight the menace,” he stated emphatically.
The outspoken legislator argued that the current state of Ghana’s rivers, forests, and farmlands reflects a lack of commitment and urgency from the government. He emphasized that the country’s forebears had preserved the environment through selfless stewardship, ensuring that future generations benefited from its natural resources.

“If our forefathers had engaged in these activities and degraded our water bodies and forests, would we have come to benefit? We must do something,” he lamented.
Prof. Nyarko also directed a stern message to individuals engaged in illegal mining, reminding them that material wealth gained through destructive practices holds no lasting value.
“Mr. Speaker, we came into this world with nothing and we shall go with nothing. All the monies that you are going to get through these illegal activities, you will leave them here — and who suffers? Our children will suffer,” he cautioned.
The Kwadaso MP concluded by urging President Mahama to move beyond rhetoric and demonstrate decisive leadership in addressing the galamsey menace, which continues to pose a grave threat to Ghana’s environment and sustainable development.
