President John Dramani Mahama has paid tribute to the late former First Lady, H.E. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a towering figure whose legacy of service and commitment to women’s empowerment will remain indelible in Ghana’s history.

In a brief but heartfelt message shared on his official Facebook page, President Mahama wrote:

“H.E. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’ legacy and dedication to empowering women and serving our country will never be forgotten.
RIP Madam.”

The President’s message comes in the wake of national mourning following the passing of the former First Lady, who was widely respected for her leadership, activism, and advocacy for gender equality.
Earlier, President Mahama received a delegation from the late First Lady’s family who officially informed him of her death. He also led a moment of silence in her honour during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed High Court judges at the Jubilee House.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was a trailblazer in Ghana’s political and social development. As the founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, she championed initiatives that uplifted women economically, socially, and politically across the country.
Throughout her public life, she was known for her strong advocacy for gender equality, education, and child welfare, values that earned her both national and international recognition.
President Mahama’s tribute reflects the deep respect held for the former First Lady across Ghana’s political divide, with many recalling her as a visionary leader who worked tirelessly to advance the status of women and improve the lives of the underprivileged.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
