As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gradually heats up toward the 2028 flagbearer contest, Hon. Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, a leading contender and Minister of Education, is carving a distinctive image as a unifier and voice of civility within the party.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Dr. Adutwum disclosed that he joined former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other aspirants for a breakfast meeting at the ex-President’s Nima residence on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
Describing the interaction as cordial and reflective, Dr. Adutwum lauded the former President for his “exemplary leadership and timely call for unity, civility, and restraint”; a message widely interpreted as an appeal to calm tensions among factions forming around the various aspirants.

“The enduring strength of the NPP lies in our ability to disagree without discord and contest without contempt,” he stated, subtly positioning himself as a bridge-builder in a potentially fractious race.
Political observers note that Adutwum’s tone distinguishes him from some contenders whose early campaign messages have been marked by internal criticisms and competitive rhetoric.
By emphasizing “a principled, ideas-driven, and decorous campaign anchored on service, unity, and respect,” the Education Minister appears to be projecting himself as the candidate of integrity, intellectual leadership, and party cohesion.
Analysts also point out that his message appeals strongly to party delegates and the middle-class base of the NPP who are eager to see a shift from personality politics to issue-based engagement ahead of 2028.
Dr. Adutwum, who has built a reputation as a technocrat and reformist within the Akufo-Addo administration, reinforced his belief that leadership should transcend personal ambition, focusing instead on “the collective pursuit of national prosperity.”
“The NPP has always stood for discipline, progress, and tradition. Let us uphold these values as we work together toward victory in 2028 and beyond,” he urged.
