A symbolic Peace Walk was held in Accra to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, underscoring global solidarity, peace, and the power of multilateralism.

The event brought together a diverse group of participants, including officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Service, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and other key stakeholders.

The Peace Walk served as both a symbolic and practical gesture of Ghana’s enduring commitment to the UN’s values of peace, unity, and international cooperation.

Delivering his remarks, the UN Resident Coordinator in Ghana, His Excellency Zia Choudhury, commended the country for its steadfast dedication to multilateralism and its active role within the United Nations system. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in addressing global challenges such as climate change, conflict, and inequality.
Also speaking at the event, the Director of the Multilateral Relations Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Akosua Okyere-Baado, highlighted the strong and historic partnership between Ghana and the United Nations. She expressed appreciation for the UN’s ongoing support to Ghana across sectors including peacekeeping, development, and humanitarian assistance.

The walk concluded with renewed calls for collective action in building a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world, in line with the UN Charter and Sustainable Development Goals.
As the United Nations marks eight decades of global service, events like these continue to reinforce the shared vision of a peaceful and cooperative international community.
