The Energy Commission of Ghana recently hosted a delegation from Senegal’s National Lighting Laboratory under the Agence pour l’Économie et la Maîtrise de l’Énergie (AEME) as part of a one-day knowledge exchange visit focused on energy efficiency and sustainable energy policy.

Held on October 13, 2025, the visit served as a valuable platform for sharing best practices in energy conservation and promoting regional collaboration. Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. Eunice Biritwum, officially welcomed the delegation and commended Senegal for its ongoing efforts in energy efficiency. She also reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to advancing energy efficiency initiatives across all sectors.

The Senegalese delegation expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality and shared insights into their country’s progress in developing energy efficiency testing laboratories and institutional frameworks to support their goals.

A key part of the visit featured a presentation on Ghana’s Energy Efficiency Regulations and Enforcement mechanisms, along with an overview of the Commission’s flagship programs. These highlighted Ghana’s strategies for promoting the use of energy-efficient appliances and ensuring regulatory compliance.
During a lively interactive session, members of the AEME team showed particular interest in Ghana’s successful Eco Fridge Initiative, which had inspired a similar program in Senegal. The visit concluded with a field tour of Hisense retail outlets to observe the enforcement of energy labelling regulations in practice.
This exchange visit further deepened the collaboration between Ghana and Senegal, reinforcing their shared commitment to building a cleaner and more energy-conscious West Africa.
