Amid rising political tension within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), former Dome-Kwabenya MP Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo has issued a firm rebuttal of claims suggesting she has defected from the camp of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to back former presidential aspirant Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.

Describing the report published by The Insight Newspaper as “false, malicious, and calculated to cause disaffection,” Adwoa Safo warned that such misinformation only threatens the fragile unity the party is working hard to rebuild after its 2024 electoral loss.

“Such publications are not only mischievous but also a deliberate attempt to sow division and undermine the unity we continue to build after the 2024 general elections,” she stated in a press release dated October 15.

In the aftermath of the NPP’s defeat at the polls, various factions have emerged, prompting concerns over the direction and leadership of the party.

Adwoa Safo’s emphatic reaffirmation of her support for Dr. Bawumia is seen as a timely intervention to counter factional narratives and realign support behind the former Vice President.

“Dr. Bawumia’s dedication to the NPP and to the service of Ghana cannot be questioned… every dedicated servant deserves a second chance to serve and lead,” she emphasized, calling on party members to resist internal blame and refocus on rebuilding.

Her statement also called out The Insight Newspaper for engaging in what she described as unethical journalism, demanding an immediate retraction and apology for the publication.

Analysts say her response reflects broader tensions within the NPP, as the party prepares for a leadership reset and potential realignments ahead of the 2028 elections.

With loyalty and strategic alliances under scrutiny, Adwoa Safo’s declaration may serve as a rallying point for unity under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership.

“The unity and progress of the NPP remain paramount,” she concluded, pledging her continued support for efforts aimed at restoring the party’s strength and public trust.
