President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama have arrived in China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, marking a significant moment in Ghana-China diplomatic relations.

The announcement was made by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a statement shared on his official Facebook page.

According to the minister, the visit is expected to usher in a new phase of strengthened bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

“Expect Ghana-China relations to grow in leaps and bounds considering the scheduled new significant agreements and high-level engagements lined up in the coming days,” Hon. Ablakwa stated.

The visit coincides with the 65th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between Ghana and China, and the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Gender Summit; two milestones seen as key pillars in the evolving partnership between the two countries.

Hon. Ablakwa expressed confidence in the future of the Ghana-China alliance, emphasizing shared goals around prosperity, equality, and South-South cooperation.

“We are confident in a future of shared prosperity, a world without discrimination, and an unstoppable global south,” the minister noted, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to collective transformation through international solidarity.

The Mahamas are expected to participate in a series of diplomatic meetings, cultural engagements, and signing ceremonies aimed at deepening cooperation in trade, infrastructure, education, and gender equity.

The visit underscores the strategic importance both nations place on their longstanding relationship and their vision for a collaborative future on the global stage.
