The Government of Ghana has released GHS 9.5 million to settle arrears owed to Primetime Limited, organizers of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ), for the period 2023 to 2025.

This was announced by Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, during the 63rd Annual Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) held in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital.

Representing President John Dramani Mahama at the event, Hon. Iddrisu also revealed that an additional GHS 186 million has been disbursed through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to support the feeding component of the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme for the month of June 2025.
The conference, held under the theme “Ensuring Comprehensive, Equitable and Sustainable Secondary Education in Ghana,” brought together education stakeholders from across the country to discuss the future of secondary education in Ghana.

“These interventions underscore the Government’s unwavering commitment to sustaining quality education and supporting students and institutions,” the Education Minister stated.
The announcement comes at a critical time when calls for timely funding of educational initiatives have intensified.
The support for the NSMQ also highlights government’s recognition of the role of academic competitions in promoting science and mathematics excellence among students.
The CHASS conference continues to serve as a key platform for dialogue and collaboration between policymakers and school administrators aimed at improving the secondary education sector.
