MTN Ghana has reinforced its dedication to driving digital transformation in the country, as Chief Digital Officer Ibrahim Misto addressed participants at the 30th Africa Internet Summit held in Accra.

Speaking on the theme “Internet in Ghana, Today and Tomorrow,” Mr. Misto reflected on Ghana’s three-decade Internet journey and MTN’s pivotal role in shaping the nation’s digital evolution.

In his remarks, Mr. Misto noted that MTN’s growth story is closely intertwined with the broader development of the Internet across Africa.

“The story of MTN as a business reflects the evolution of the Internet on the African continent,” he said.

“We’ve moved beyond voice and SMS to deliver a broad range of services including data, IoT, fintech, and enterprise solutions. MTN has transformed from a traditional telecom provider into a technology company.”

He emphasized MTN Ghana’s ongoing investments in infrastructure and digital inclusion. Since 2021, the company has invested over US$1 billion to modernize its network, expand 4G coverage, and bring fibre connectivity to more homes and businesses across the country.

Through its Mobile Money (MoMo) platform, MTN now serves over 17 million customers, playing a significant role in advancing financial inclusion and providing access to essential digital financial services.

Looking ahead, Mr. Misto stressed the importance of collaboration in building a robust digital ecosystem.

“We envision an Internet future that is faster, smarter, and more inclusive. Ghana, supported by a strong digital agenda, is well-positioned to lead Africa’s digital transformation. But this future must be built collectively by government, industry, civil society, and especially the youth who will shape it,” he said.

MTN Ghana remains committed to investing in connectivity, digital skills training, platforms, and innovation hubs. The company’s mission, he emphasized, is to foster a resilient Internet infrastructure grounded in the principles of access, equity, and opportunity for all.
