Five families at Kromoase community in Ashanti region have registered their displeasure against an ongoing construction of stores on a school land by the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly.
The project is a BOT and is sited at an area which heads of the individual families claim forms part of Kromoase D/A Primary and JHS land.
The aggrieved heads are separately of Bedensu, Betenase, Fawoman, Brewfiemu and Kotokuom families.
At a press briefing held on Sunday, 30th June, 2024, Nana Yaw Ntim who is the head of Bedensu royal family described the move as disheartening, saying the District Chief Executive Hon. Prince Karikari had no consultation with the family heads and traditional leaders of the area before commencing the project.
He mentioned that so long as the area is a school land, the DCE or the assembly has no right whatsoever to annul the purpose for which the land was provided by constructing stores on it.
Nana Yaw Ntim again disclosed that a good number of trees that occupied the area as a complement to the Green Ghana project have all been cut down by the contractor.
He said when they questioned the DCE as to who offered the area to the assembly for the project, he said he received authorisation from the traditional authorities.
However, Nana Yaw Ntim, told the media that their checks at the traditional council indicate that no authorisation whatsoever was given to the DCE.
He told the press that what worries them is that the assembly instead of addressing pressing challenges faced by the school which are, abandoned construction of a classroom block, rusted roof of some of the classrooms, bushy environment among others, the assembly has opted to construct the stores for their economic advantage.
The families have therefore threatened to stage a massive demonstration against the assembly if the latter fails to halt the project.
