Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Ghana’s Energy Minister) writes…
Today, 25th June, 2024, marks the commencement of the 2024 edition of the Africa Energy Forum (AEF), currently underway at Fira de Montjuic, Barcelona, Spain.
A global investment meeting for Africa’s energy, infrastructure and industrial sectors, the forum offers us an opportunity to yet again, position Ghana favourably as the investment destination of choice.
At a Ministerial Round table earlier today, African Energy Ministers delved into Energy Systems for the Future in the overarching context of balancing Africa’s needs with global goals.
Together with our energy sector heads, primarily in the power sector, I subsequently held a meeting with the UK Trade Commissioner for Africa. Our discussions primarily centered around positioning our energy sector strategically for the needed investment, especially from the UK, under the aegis of the Powering Africa programme.
We remain focused on building a resilient energy sector that has the capacity to support Ghana’s economic growth, enhance the quality of life of citizens, and one that will exert itself as a leader in sustainable energy within the sub-region and beyond.
